I have a dude about making a character

Wed Apr 29, 2009, 7:26 PM
If i want to make my own character, and it maybe similar to another in some aspects, like color, proportions, physicals, animal genre, but isn't the same (in example, if i want to make a character some similar to Tails and Klonoa, but isn't Tails nor Klonoa), and i use this character to make my own game with my own copyright, this will generate some copyroght problem? (citing the case of Tails and Klonoa, it are of SEGA and Namco, respectively). I see some people makes similar characters based on Sonic family, but i don't know if i can use it to make my game. I guess the partial drawing style isn't a copyright of SEGA.

I know this is an old journal but, since no one replied it, here we go.

See, when you just use the same style, there's not much problem unless the characther REALLY looks like the other one.

A good example would be Mario and Luigi. Let's imagine Nintendo only has Mario, and YOU are who created Luigi. THAT can be some problem because they really look like each other.

But if you make a comparsion with Mario and Wario, that wouldn't be a problem cause even with the same style, they are not so similar, so that's okay.

And by the way, if you want some inspiration in order to make your characther, i suggest trying create a BETA version of your characther here on this doll maker. I made SilverBlade there: [link]

Thanks! I seen this game you show me and is creative due to the big combinations and funny, although i've planning a new game using a character that i've created (based a little on Tains and Klonoa).
